Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna is a premier engineering and research institution with a large and dynamic campus environment comprising academic blocks, laboratories, administrative offices, hostels, and open movement areas. With continuous student activity and institutional operations, the campus required a reliable and high-clarity surveillance infrastructure to ensure safety, centralized monitoring, and long-term scalability.

Impulse was selected to design and deploy a structured IP-based CCTV and network solution tailored to the operational and security requirements of a leading higher-education institution.

Security Challenges

IIT Patna required a surveillance and network system capable of delivering high-definition monitoring across academic and residential zones while ensuring stable data transmission across multiple campus buildings. The infrastructure needed to support centralized recording, uninterrupted camera connectivity, and future expansion without significant redesign.

Integrated Surveillance & Network Deployment

To secure indoor academic blocks, laboratories, corridors, and administrative areas, Impulse deployed 5 MP Fixed Dome Cameras. These cameras provide consistent high-resolution imaging and a discreet dome form factor that integrates seamlessly into institutional interiors while maintaining reliable visual clarity across key operational zones.

For outdoor surveillance covering entry gates, pathways, hostel exteriors, and campus perimeters, 5 MP Fixed Bullet Cameras were installed. Engineered for dependable outdoor performance, these cameras ensure stable imaging under varying lighting and environmental conditions, strengthening campus-wide perimeter visibility.

All camera feeds are centrally aggregated and managed through an enterprise-grade Network Video Recorder (NVR). The NVR enables real-time monitoring, efficient playback for investigations, and secure long-term storage of critical footage, providing administrators with centralized oversight from the campus control room.

Supporting the entire IP surveillance ecosystem is a 24 Port PoE Switch with 4 SFP Ports, which forms the backbone of the network infrastructure. This switch delivers centralized power to connected IP cameras via PoE while ensuring structured data transmission across campus buildings. The inclusion of SFP uplink ports enables high-speed fiber connectivity between network nodes, maintaining bandwidth stability and minimizing latency across distributed surveillance zones.

Technical Highlights

The deployed solution delivers consistent 5 MP high-resolution video across indoor and outdoor campus environments. Centralized recording through the NVR platform simplifies monitoring and incident review processes. The 24-port PoE switching backbone ensures reliable power distribution, optimized traffic flow, and scalable uplink connectivity via SFP ports, enabling smooth performance across multiple buildings.
