Strengthening Campus-Wide Surveillance at IIT Roorkee with Impulse

Impulse collaborated with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee to enhance the institution’s campus security and surveillance infrastructure. As one of India’s premier educational institutions, IIT Roorkee needed a robust and scalable surveillance system to monitor student areas, administrative blocks, and entry-exit points. The solution had to deliver high-resolution video, reliable storage, and intelligent analytics to ensure 24×7 safety across the vast campus.

The Challenge

With a large campus layout and multiple departments spread across extensive grounds, IIT Roorkee required comprehensive security solutions that addressed the following needs:

The Solution

Impulse CCTV implemented an advanced IP surveillance system, deploying a combination of dome cameras, access control devices, and a high-capacity network video recorder (NVR) to create a centralized and intelligent monitoring framework.

3MP Vandal-Proof Dome Camera

These dome cameras were deployed at key indoor and semi-outdoor zones such as corridors, labs, and staff entries. Featuring a 3MP resolution with a 2.8–12mm motorized varifocal lens, they deliver detailed video output with flexible zoom control. The vandal-proof design ensures durability even in high-traffic areas. With WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) and built-in IR support, the cameras produce clear visuals under varying lighting conditions. Their compact form factor and weather resistance made them ideal for discreet yet powerful surveillance within the campus.

3MP Varifocal Network Bullet Camera

Instead of access control, 3MP Varifocal Network Bullet Cameras were installed for extended outdoor surveillance. Each unit comes equipped with a 1/2.8″ CMOS sensor, 2.8mm to 12mm motorized lens, and 40-meter IR range for excellent visibility day and night. Key features include Quad stream, SD card support, Audio/Alarm In & Out, Auto/Manual shutter, WDR, and edge analytics with motion detection. These bullet cameras were positioned strategically at open grounds, entry points, and parking zones to maximize security coverage.

64CH Network Video Recorder

To handle the video data from multiple camera feeds, the IMP-SPS-NVR-12808-4K was deployed at the central command center. This powerful NVR supports 64 channels and 8 SATA interfaces, offering massive storage capacity and 4K video output. With a recording bandwidth of 640 Mbps, it ensures seamless, high-resolution recording and playback. The H.265 compression technology reduces storage consumption while maintaining video clarity. The NVR also features intuitive playback options and centralized device management, making it easier for the security team to manage live feeds and archives.
